The cool months of winter and the holidays are upon us, but also the joys of the season’s best warms our hearts, home, and families. The most decorated time of the year! Designing interiors is the core of what I do for my clients and for myself. I love using the holidays for my design element in creating cozy interior spaces for families. Elements such as: textures, sights, and scents are important in creating a cozy festive home. I’d like to share three simple steps to make your home sparkle, feel cozy, and spiritual.
- What do I mean by sparkle? Start by clearing and cleaning living spaces, by doing this, you allow a clear palette to create a festive look. Pull out your holiday decorations and start placing objects around the home. For instance, you might start with your dining room. Holiday tablecloths are abundant this time of year, spread a silver or gold tablecloth on your table and set the table with some placemats, china, stemware, cloth napkins and rings. Make your centerpiece from a globe, or a crystal bowl filled with Christmas ornaments. Your table is basically set for your guest and you get to enjoy the way it looks for weeks to come!
- Cozy, the smells of the season’s pine, and cookies baking from the oven, comfy throws for your sofa, heat soaring from the fireplace; all the things we love about winter. Bring in fresh greenery for the mantle, for the lovely aroma of pine, add lights, and holiday sprigs.
- Spiritual, what does your home say about you? Make your home a nurturing and safe place to retreat to. Spending time with the ones we love, entertaining with friends and family.
May the joys of the season be bountiful and beautiful for you and your families!
